Just loved it

Loved every minute of this book. I found the heroin adorable and real and the hero dashing. The story was refreshing and different to her usual storylines. Has to be my fav BC novel as well as fav couple!! Recommend this book with 5 stars to anyone who wants to read a good love story.

'The journey has come back to where it first began'

Abba Eban was one of Israel's greatest statesmen. Here the man who helped to make history, documents the history of his own people.My People: The Story of the Jews is the history of the Jewish Nation from the time of Abram and his journey into Canaan, until 1968 CE.

He points out that just as the history of the Jewish Nation began in the Land of Israel, with the return of the Jews to Israel and the re-establishment of the State of Israel 'The journey has come back to where it first began'.
Eban covers the story of Abram and his journey to Canaan, the sojourn of the Israelites in Egypt, and their return to Canaan under Joshuah's leadership.
He succintly and skilfully describes the history of ancient Israel describing the great Commonwelath of David and Solomon, the division of the Land of Israel into two Kingdoms, and the wisdom of the Prophets.

He describes how 'Israel's history assumes a unique quality with the Babylonian captivity.Many people have preserved their nationalism on their own soil, even under foreign conquest, but never before had any people preserved it's national identity and spiritual distinctiveness in exile for thousands of years with sufficient vitality to ensure an ultimate rebirth'.
Through millenia the Nation of Israel has remained a unique nation, even in exile retaining it's eternal link with the Land of Israel.
As we progress through the history of the Jewish people through the Greek and Roman conquests and the courageous resistance of the Jews to the ocupation of their homeland, through the destruction of the temple and the eventual exile from the land we are reminded of this.
One must remember that there always remained a Jewish presence in the Land of Israel, throughout the exile, There was never a time when there were no Jews in the Holy Land. This is a story of endurance and renewal. It is a story of how the Jews survived all the massacres and persecution, from the Romans to the Crusaders who swept across Europe anihilating Jewish communities, to the horrific Chmielnitzki massacres and the pogroms in Eastern Europe, the Jews endured.
They refused to assimilate or renounce their faith.
Some like Mohammed and Martin Luther began with a sympathetic attitude to the Jews in the hope that the Jews would adopt these men's religions. When the Jews refused they turned on the Jews with savagery and hate.
The greatest miracle of all was the return to Zion.
We learn the real reason why the Arab leaders opposed the retun of the Jews to their ancient homeland. The doctrine of political equality and social justice that had swept through Europe and later across the Atlantic had made no impression on the dark Arab hinterland, and the Arab leaders and landowner feared the influence the Jewish example of democracy and socail justice would make on their own downtrodden masses.
That is why they stirred up their subjects to attack the Jewish returnees as they have been doing since 1920.
Describing the new Jewish communities set up in the Holy Land in the 1920s and 30s, many of them refugees from Nazi Germany, Eban describes how
'Settlement. cultivation of the land, and self-defence, were the practical answer of Palestine Jewry to Arab hostility and British vacillation. The response was coloured by an awareness of the inherent right of peoples to self-protection and by a belief in the inalienable dignity of human life as a principle from which Jewish life should not be excluded. The years 1939 to 1945 would see that principle shattered across the bloodstained continent of Europe'.
Eban stresses how the Zionist leadership tried to warn the world of the impending holocaust by the Nazis of world Jewry, and in vain urged the allies to act to save the 6 million Jews.
As Ebban describes the rebirth of the State of Israel and the wars of defence, he also stresses the great achievements in culture, medicine, humanity and science made by the Jewish State.
An answer to the vile critics of Israel today :"It is not an offense against the Middle Eastern traditions for a non-Arab and non-Moslem sovereignty to live and flourish in the original home of Hebrew memory and thought. The question is not whetherb Israel will change it's special nature, but whether the Arabs will come to terms with Israel as it is".
In discussing the Six Day War Ebban describes how the Arabs surrounded Israel with troops and weapons, openly threatening Israel and issuing threats of anihilation, much like those being currently issued by Iranian modern day Hitler, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
The Six Day War was forced on Israel by the Arabs.
Essentially we are left marvelling how a world that once thundered at the Jews to get out of every land they lived in are now thundering at the Jews to leave their ancient homeland.
Abba Eban was a great statesman and leader and also proves that he was a great historian and writer. It is a pity he is no longer with us.

Great Value

This book is a great value with this price tag. I didn't like the paperback and the photocopy nature of this book. However, I like broad spectrum of topics visited. Three great things about this book: 1) Numerous practical considerations notes 2) Important concepts included at the beginning of each section 3) Answers of selected problems. One drawback is the focus on BJT is more than MOS. The level of this book in intermediate-advanced.

This was for a senior course in electronics with topics needed to build basic RF circuitry. This does not cover microwave electronics more VHF and UHF. Microwave electronics takes more things into account. Use of this book is suggested with a good teacher. I could not find any single book in our libraries or other local collegian libraries on the subject. Everyone wants to go straight to microwave this is one of the few collections about non microwave design that I was able to find. I wish it could be better.

The political philosopher, Edmund Burke, said that all that was necessary for evil to prevail was for good men to do nothing. In Fanning the Flames, Pappas calls on good men, from both sides of the aisle, to put a stop to the radical, slanderous and anti-democratic tactics used by the radical left.

Saul Alinsky was a thug in activist’s clothing. He taught people how to organize communities in order to steal power from the Haves and redistribute it to the Have Nots. The only question he asked of means was “will it work?”

Today’s radicals may not know who Alinsky was and may not have read his most famous book, Rules for Radicals, but they apply his tactics almost to the letter. The ultimate goal of every one of the radical left’s tactics is to silence conservatives and remove their views from the marketplace of ideas. Or, as George Orwell said in 1984, “make all other modes of thought impossible.”

In Fanning the Flames, Pappas shows just how and why the left does this and what conservatives can do to stop it.

You will learn how radical black civil rights leaders like Al Sharpton have intentionally accused innocent white men of raping black women in order to advance their agenda; how radical gay rights activists like Dan Savage and Michelangelo Signorile have tried to infect their political opponents with the flu and called for gay conservatives to kill themselves; how radical feminists have intentionally falsified rape statistics in order to create a false sense of urgency among women and fan the flames of hatred against men and the male dominated society they supposedly created; how the radical left uses uncivil and inflammatory rhetoric to marginalize it's opponents; and how the left dominates the American education system in order to radicalize the young.

At the end of the book, Pappas explains the methods the left will use to fight back against the fighting back by first revising history and claiming that Alinsky was not a radical after all and then by asserting that conservatives also use Alinsky's tactics. Finally, Pappas provides a set of rules that conservatives can use to combat the radical tactics of the radical left.

Fanning the Flames is an excellent read. Well written and well researched , the author
has done a great job of bringing to light the unfair tactics used by radicals to advance their agenda. Although thin skinned radicals may believe differently , Mr. Pappas does not attack anyone's political beliefs or policies . He objectively exposes the methods used by some groups to advance their causes. Mr. Pappas exposes these unscrupulous tactics for what they are , and gives the people who are the subject of the attacks methods to counteract them . If you enjoy politics or history , whether you are liberal , conservative or somewhere in between , you will enjoy this book . It is thought provoking and it will stimulate hours of discussion . This book is a must read for anyone active in politics on any level , including politics in your community , in your business or in your religious place of worship . It helps all sides clarify their own thoughts , and understand the thoughts of their adversaries.

An entertaining, if dated, review of King's early work

Part Biography and part review of King's literary and film works (up to the mid 80s at least), this book was very interesting. The author is an avowed King fan, so it is not a surprise that he praises everything King wrote up to that point (of course, all that stuff was awesome, so I can't fault the author for that).

I learned a few things from the book, including the fact that the Dark Tower series was expected to be released as a large collection of short stories (The Gunslinger is a collection of 5 related short stories, though now we just consider them all one book). There are several references to The Cannibals, including its original title "Under the Dome," which it eventually retook when it was published recently. I found the most interesting aspect of the book was finding out when King wrote everything (books weren't necessarily written in published order and some of the story collections were written over many many years).

I'd like to read an updated version of this book, bringing in all the work he's done over the 25 years since this book came out.

Classic Study of the Works of Stephen King

Stephen King: The Art of Darkness constitutes a commendable study of the themes of Stephen King novels by Harvard lawyer and book critic, Douglas E. Winter, who has spent a lifetime delving into the works of the grandmaster of horror, featuring King's own interpretation of his works as well as the influences that went into the writing of the novels, including the prevailing topical concerns of society that found its way into the works, as well as the personal problems faced by King that are reflected in the characters he creates; in particular, The Shining - which reflects King's struggle for recognition amidst a Cocainne and booze addiction coupled with intense feelings of rage which he successfully suppressed.

This study deals with all major works by the author, including movie adaptations and works in progress and incorporates a bibliography featuring upcoming novels and movie adaptations that are scheduled for future production, and represents a comprehensive study of the works of one of the most prolific and influential writers of popular fiction.

Highly recommended for King fans

"Winter has taught me things about the novels of Stephen King, just when I was no longer sure that was possible." -Peter Straub on the back cover.
I bought this book soon after it was published in the late 1980s. Even though it is 30 years old, it's an excellent survey of the first part of King's writing career. Winter writes very well, and brings a scholarly analysis to his essays. He discusses the influences on King's books and short stories - literary and popular culture alike - and the political and social undercurrents in his ideas and characters.

I give this 5/5 because it teaches the concept about the social data and it gives some codes for python. It also have some basic python code or reviews. If you want to expand you knowledge in trading, this books is for you.
