About the Author
Born in Barbados, West Indies, Neville came to the United States to study drama at the age of seventeen. In 1932 he gave up the theater to devote his attention to his studies in mysticism when he began his lecture career in New York City. After traveling throughout the country, he eventually made his home in Los Angeles where, in the late 1950's, he gave a series of talks on television, and for many years, lectured regularly to capacity audiences at the Wilshire Ebell Theater. Although Neville's career peaked in the late 1950's and early 60's, his message continues to find a place in the hearts of spiritual readers throughout the world today. Neville Goddard was one of the more quietly dramatic and supremely influential teachers in the New Thought field for many years.

Just Buy It,.. And follow it, and Be What this book Teaches

It's almost ludicrous that the price of this book is equal to that of a music CD, given the potential impact to one's life if its teachings are embraced and practiced. It is IMPOSSIBLE to put a value on this book!! It is beyond any of the existing self-development or metaphysical material I've ever read, though the basic premise has been covered by many writers, even Napoleon Hill. While Hill spends some time covering how important it is to visualize your goals, Neville basically drills it into you in the deepest, most profound way, and his writings all hammer into you the exact method by which you need to "feel" as if you're already there in your desired circumstance, place, goal achievement, reality, whatever.
Neville illustrates the teachings of the Bible to show how the Bible alludes to how important it is to see yourself as you WANT TO BE, not what your 5 senses are seeing right now. If you're not religious, don't let this dissuade you. You will finally understand the wonderful symbology of the Bible and what It teaches you. In Resurrection, Neville convinces you that your desired reality actually exists, but you need to *feel* yourself into this reality without doubt, before it materializes....

A major difference between Neville and other more modern metaphysical writers is that Neville's teachings impress upon you the importance of Identity. Instead of trying to be a "doer": visualize and affirm until you believe something.. you instead assume the very Identity of the version of you that is already in that desired circumstance. How? With Feeling.
Leave behind the version of you that is -wanting- and that is -lacking- in consciousness. Be consumed by that identity, that version of you, that is *already* fulfilled, seeing the world -from- that fulfilled view, *even* when the outside "facts" show otherwise. Don't come at this from a feeling of lack, or "try to get something" with techniques, as in: "I must apply this law of attraction stuff in just the right way, or I will be in lack".
Neville is way ahead of the familiar LOA stuff - he speaks very matter of factly about how basic and True these principles are, and he's trying to get through to you that you must remember that the outer world is just a blank canvas and your Inner habit of Feeling, from morning to night, is the -only- source, the only thing that this canvas can get material from!
Instead, simply Be that which you desire, to the point that it almost wouldn't even matter if the outer material world reflected your desired life, because you are already being that fulfilled version of yourself and you Feel it. When you read and re-read Neville, you'll see

The best minibook in my opinion: Feeling Is The Secret 1944, and another one I love is: Prayer: The Art of Believing 1945,.. but the whole collection is dynamite.

I bought the Neville Reader myself, even though I own Resurrection, so I'd recommend the Neville Reader book also, regardless.

Neville, a prolific writer and lecturer deals with creative visualization and the transformation of consciousness. This outstanding book addresses: Prayer - The Art of Believing, Feeling Is The Secret, Freedom For All, Out of This World, and Resurrection. Sometimes words fail to adequately convey just how powerful a book can be. When I first read Neville, it was just after reading another book called 3 Magic Words. Neville's words seemed to be the next level of "how to" to the theory and principles of "Words". I recommend it highly, (You know you're ready for it simply by virture of being here at this website reading this..that's how the universe works!)

Jane Hornby is an established baker, food writer, cookbook author, and recipe tester. She is a columnist for BBC’s Good Food magazine and teaches cooking classes. She has appeared on The Martha Stewart Show and been featured in media outlets throughout the U.S. and UK. Love this cookbook

This book is great for anyone learning how to cook or even people who have been cooking for a while. Its very neat and the pictures are great. All the recipes include pictures from the start of the meal to the end. Ms. Hornby also took the time to show all the ingredients and what it would look like for the homecook. Most of the ingredients can be found in the supermarket or farmer's market. The recipes are economical and thats great in a cookbook. Here is a list of how the book is set up

Introduction:
Tips on how to make recipes work for you. Basic kitchen equipment like knives, roasting pan and food processor. Next is ingredients, shopping tips and basic pantry.

Breakfast & Brunch:
Smoothies, cinnamon rolls, eggs( eggs benedict and scrambled eggs), muffins, french toast, huevos rancheros, pancakes and corncakes.

Light Lunches:
Ham Cheese Sandwich, warm goat cheese salad, spicy vegetable soup, couscous& harissa salad, warm goat cheese& beet salad, chicken caesar salad, chicken &corn quesadilias, BLT sandwich and shrimp & mushroom laksa.

Simple Suppers:
Chicken stir-fry, mushroom risotto, thai curry with beef, lamb chops and mint salad, cheeseburgers, breaded fish and tartar sauce, macaroni& cheese, sausage and mashed potatoes with onion gravy, stuffed chicken with tomatoes and arugula, shrimp pad thai, cajun chicken and pineapple salsa and penne with tomato/olive sauce.

Food for sharing:
Sticky BBQ ribs, stuffed potato skins, chicken wings and blue cheese dip, antipasti with tapenade and tomato bruschetta, cheese nachos and guacamole, hummus with marinated olives and pitas, chicken tikka and raita lettuce cups, pizza margherita and chicken satay.

Weekend Cooking:
Pan Fried Fish, chilli con carne with baked potatoes, coq au vin, creamy fish pie, roast chicken with lemon and leek stuffing, eggplant parmigana, lasagne, paella, crab cakes, beef stew, chicken pot pie, fish stew and roast pork.

Side Dishes:
Roast potatoes, rataouille, coleslaw, maple roast winter vegetables, oven fries, dressed green beans, glazed carrots.

Desserts:

Apple pie, chocolate chip cookies, frosted cupcakes, key lime pie, lemon tart, vanilla ice cream, brownies and panna cotta with raspberries.

Also Ms. Hornby includes tips on planning a menu and basic preparations like cutting garlic, onions and herbs.

I did my best to list most of the dishes. I did not list them all. I just wanted to give everyone an idea of whats in the book. This book is great for family and friends. This cookbook is great for any level of the homecook. I am glad I have this book and I will continue to make more of the dishes. Last night I made the spicy vegetable soup. Tonight I made for dessert the key lime pie. I cant wait until its ready.

Clear, concise, clever and well organized.

I saw this book, in, of all places, URBAN OUTFITTERS.

This is a new, delightfully laid-out and easily understandable cookbook which proceeds on the assumption that everyone is new to cooking.
I have not seen a book like this one, where each step of a recipe is photographed. For example, with Coq au Vin, there are photos showing the vegetables, then the slicing, then the chicken, when to put the wine in, etc.

The calm and articulate prose that accompanies the recipes is noteworthy for its gentle but authoritative ability to reassure the cook.

It's true that the internet has made recipe finding easy. But a book like "What to Cook and How to Cook It" is something one will have for years, and is as essential to a kitchen as salt, knives, butter and water.

Well thought out, simple to use. Fantastic!

I cannot recommend this book enough. I love cooking but I have a hard time following many recipies in other cook books and from websites. The reason is that I am quite a visual person. I need to see what the dish should look like when you are finished. This book does that but it also takes it a number of steps further.

Every recipe is laid out from start to finish with a picture for each step. Even the ingredients are shown in their measurments to make it easier for you to see where to begin. The book also has a picture of the dish at critical points in the preparation so you can see how it should look.

The recipes are easy to follow and are not overly complicated. The recipes are also all based around food that everyone loves. Things like Chicken Pot Pie, Coc au Vin, chicken wings, BBQ ribs.

This book is great for anyone who is new to cooking and even intermediate cooks who like that visual style cookbook.

This is an excellent book. It shows you the battle plans in the main closed systems and gave you a lot of advice about how to play the middlegame and the endgame.
Maybe the most important subject is the move order in the opening so you'll never be playing what your oponent want to play.

Absolute gem on strategic way of taught

Mednis wrote a real joy for every chess player who wants to reasure himself about plans in closed positions. If one dont play d4 as white, he would find a lot of material from the black side of board. In some critical moments author devotes virtually the whole page just to explain a future plans. Fantastic for everyone unsure in kind of way to play transition from opening to middlegame. This is for sure one of the most important books ever written about early middlegame plans after 1.d4 (thanks god, its algebraic notation)

Tremendously instructive work on the closed game

This is my favorite book by Mednis, and I have several of them. If you play 1. d4, this is, in my opinion, an essential book. Mednis carefully explains the strategic underpinnings of all the major d4 openings. He deliberately does not go overboard on tactically heavy openings, because he did not wish this to be a book on tactics. For instance, there is only one game on the Benoni. But you know the irony of that? His one game makes the Benoni understandable, as does his one game in the Benko Gambit (many other games in the annotations). Many other books have purported to explain the "ideas" and "strategy" behind the openings, but I have never seen a book do this so effectively. This book far exceeds works in its genre. For instance, it must be compared to such works as: Chernev's "Logical Chess" and "Most Instructive Games," and John Nunn's recent "Understanding Chess, Move by Move." For my money (literally and figuratively), "Strategic Chess, Mastering the Closed Game," far exceeds those other works, for several reasons. Regarding "Logical Chess," most chess players consider that book an incredible learning tool for newer players. It brings chess to life for many people. However, it has several major limitations: it does not deal with modern openings; it wastes many pages worth of material reiterating the same exact thoughts; its explanations are often quite superficial; and it frustrates in its failure to really explain the more complex moves. Mednis' work shines brilliantly on all these points: it handles all major modern closed openings; it never wastes ink on redundancy; its explanations are concise, poignant, and always illuminating; and it does not shy away from tactical complexity, althought that is not the focus of the book. Regarding Chernev's "Masterpieces" and Nunn's "Understanding," I do not wish to point out flaws in either of those books (Because they are both five star books to me), but in one very crucial way, the present book by Mednis is far more important to me than those books: namely, it is focused on the closed (d4) games, so it is a singular treatise on them. In that sense, it provides a comprehensive course on the d4 openings, in a way that completely prepares you to understand and play both sides of d4 openings (there is coverage of the English, Dutch, and Torre as well. Of course, this book is not an opening treatise on any particular d4 opening, so it is not a substitute for books on one specific opening. For instance, if you are going to play the Queen's Gambit Declined, you still will want to have Marovic's "Play the Queen's Gambit" or Sadler's "Queen's Gambit Declined".) By contrast, the Chernev and Nunn books are all over the map in terms of openings. The Nunn and Chernev books contain beautifully annotated games, but the games do not go together as a cohesive whole, as they do in this Mednis book. This point significantly diminishes the value of those books to me. Those books contain snapshots of beautiful chess, and they are great books as far as they go; but this Mednis book is a living instructional course on queen pawn openings, and for that it is unique and essential. Also, the games that he has chosen to illustrate his strategic themes are very beautiful games. At under ten bucks, this Dover book is one of the best values in the whole literature of chess.

About the Author

Grandmaster Jacob Aagaard won the British Championship at his first and only attempt. He is the only chess author to have received the Boleslavsky Medal as well as the Guardian, ECF and ChessCafe Book of the Year awards. He is a FIDE Senior Trainer, and on his retirement from professional chess he has taken up the post as trainer for the Danish elite. His training material is used by amateurs, grandmasters and World Champions alike.

A simple method to find good positional moves !

Aagaard presents in this book a simple and instructive method in order to find positional move.
There are three questions that one should ask himself before taking a positional decision :
1.What is the weakness ? (chapter one)
2.What is the worst placed piece ? (chapter two)
3. What does my opponent want ? (chapter three)
The reader should then try to solve some exercices involving the three questions without a clue (chapter four) and the solutions are chapter five.
Great reading and training because the examples are well chosen,not too difficult (unlike most Aagaard's training books, generally aimed at a +2400 level)and the method is easy to remember and use.
This is not an instructionnal book for beginners, the reader must know the basics of strategy, pawn structure, so I would say ideally suited for1700-2400 players.

A page turner (albeit slowly)!

This is not a Tom Clancy novel (I like them too!). It is difficult, it takes time - a lot of time - and I think it is a very good book. Just finishing a chapter (as much as I have done so far) gives you a sense of accomplishment. I have about seven or so of Aagaard's books and they are all good (well, except for the first edition of the Attacking Manual and there is a second edition out now that is just fine). This book should be on your winter reading list, and it will take a good part of the winter to complete it. But you will have learned a lot. If you finish this book, then get his book Strategic Play. It will make this book seem pretty easy!

It's worth it

This book provides some lessons about different aspects of positional play. It covers weaknesses, piece placement, and prophylaxis. The exercises and solutions make up the bulk of the book. I usually spend 10 to 30 minutes on each problem, and the process of analyzing the positions and trying to solve them is very helpful for me. I was rated about 1800 USCF when I started studying the book and gained over 250 rating points in less than a year. Although this was only one of several books I studied, this one and Pawn Power were probably the most beneficial. I don't believe there is any one magical book that is the key to success, and a lot of it depends on an individual's style and personality. This book demands a lot of energy, but I feel it can be worth to time you'll have to put into it.

From the Author
Indian culture is very different from the culture of the West, but because I found during my many sojourns in India since 1973, and particularly during the six years I spent in medical school in Pune, that these differences are not unbridgeable, I determined to try to bridge a few of them by writing a book on Ayurveda, my subject of study. When I graduated from the Tilak Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya with a degree in Ayurvedic medicine in 1980, books in English on Ayurveda were difficult to obtain, and those which were obtainable were difficult for Westerners to follow. Being a Westerner who was fortunate enough to have acquired this knowledge first-hand in India, I wanted to help expose the average Western reader to Ayurveda, and so I set out to make the book as simple as possible. I omitted as many foreign words as I could without sacrificing what I felt was the substance of the teachings, and used Sanskrit words only when it was impossible to convey their meanings through English equivalents. I strove for clarity and simplicity, and I hope that the basic concepts of Ayurveda still shine through to illuminate these pages without obstruction. My hope now, as it was then, is that this short book will instill in those readers who have only begun to dip their toes into Ayurvedic waters the desire and motivation to pursue further study in this most ancient of all sciences of life.

About the Author
The first Westerner ever to graduate from a college of Ayurveda (in 1980) and be licensed to practice Ayurveda in India, Dr. Svoboda lived in India from 1973-80 and 1982-86. Since 1985, he has traveled the world lecturing, consulting, teaching and writing. He serves as Adjunct Faculty at the Ayurvedic Institute, Albuquerque, NM, and Bastyr University, Kenmore, WA.

I have three other versions of this wonderful book, each having its own uniqueness and each having its own mythology. I will add this book to the other three. The story of a wee creature who gives his sight to complete strangers and never asking for a reward. Yet, a most wonderous honor awaits him. One he never, ever dreamed of.

The book is simple and though I am a huge HARRY POTTER fan, a STONEHEART fan (by Charlie Fletcher), THE CODE OF CLAW series by the author of the HUNGER GAMES (no, I did no finish reading THE HUNGIE GAMES, threw it on the floor), I always find simple joy in THE STORY OF JUMPING MOUSE. I only wish I could have purchased one which had a dustcover.

Back to THE HUNGIE GAMES and why I threw the book on the floor. No disrespect intended. I was so angry at that cruel, sadistic gubermint forcing children to kill one another for pleasure and their parents, families being forced to watch them die.
