Meh. Not so great.

Writing was juvenile and awkward. The setting seemed to be some past time, with lords and knights saying things like "heed me well," and suchlike, but then a character would say "he wasn't a nice guy," "yeah, great," or think of a weapon as "kick-ass." Typos as usual for these kinds of books, and problems with past-tenses. One particularly jarring moment involved a hand held out to shake which the author describes as "a distending hand." Ends on a cliffhanger, which I hate. Won't be reading any more of this series; too much of a chore.

There are 2 ways to read this book. You could read it as an adventure fairy tale or read it as tongue-in-cheek story. Our 3 adventurers have many events occur during their journey, and most importantly, learn a few Life lessons along their way. The story is told in a serious manner that will give you a few chuckles, especially when current phrases and modern words are used, and considering the tale is placed in Medieval times. I would have liked the book to be longer, but it is stand alone read.

This book is filled with adventure. It starts a little slow but builds. I can't wait for the next. This is my first review. I don't usually review because I don't see how my liking a book will result in your liking a book. But, since this book had no reviews and is very good I figured it deserved someone writing a few words of gratitude.

The author begins by doing an overview of the first books, giving us a chance to remember (how could we forget?) everything that our heroes had gone through.
Just like in the previous books, there are several romantic bits, but in this one we have more than that. We have the declaration and consummation of love – now which of the couples I’m talking about is something you have to read to discover.
Abraham is still my favourite character and, I’m going to be very honest with you: I was frightened that Kate Carson would do something that I wouldn't like (like George R.R. Martin who kills everyone’s favourite characters), but thankfully that didn’t happen.
Isabel…oh Isabel, the faints and almost-faints… Apart from that (which I kind of get because the Ladies in the XIV century wouldn’t go to battle), I loved that she finally spoke for herself!
Just like Cian and Millie, I didn’t like that so many lives were lost but it was all part of the plot and it was necessary.
Millie, like always, got her hands dirty and decided (and saved) the faith of the Clans. You go girl!
And the best moment was, without a doubt with the horrible Nicol. I had no idea how Kate Carson would bring Millie back to the XXI century, and she did it in a brilliant way that I hadn’t expected.
As I imagine you might know, these stories usually have happy endings, and this one isn’t an exception: but we don’t read these books because of their endings, in fact we get disappointed if it’s not what was almost promised at the beginning of the books. We read them because of the characters and because of what each one of them brings to the table. Cian, Millie, Isabel, Abraham, were, without a doubt in my mind, full on characters, interesting, complex and yet simple in their complexity, characters that made us cheer for their happiness.
After all of this, if Millie stayed or not with Cian (or if he died in battle), if Millie returned alone (or not) to the XXI century or decided to stay in the XIV century, if Isabel married Cian or chose someone else, those are all things that you will only find out when you read the book.

“Love in the Ley Lines” is the perfect ending for this story.

If you read my other reviews, you know how much I liked the previous books of “The Ley Lines Trilogy”. “Love in the Ley Lines” is the third and last book of this trilogy and I was anxiously waiting for it!

Being the last book of the trilogy, this is the book where everything ends. Every question is answered; every moment has a meaning; and everything makes sense. I asked Kate Carson why she wrote this story in this way: why didn't she write everything in just one book instead of three tiny books. Her answer was that she was a fan of serialised TV Shows and she tried to do it with her story. In my opinion, it was new to me, but it really worked. I felt the same “need” as I feel when I'm following a TV Show: that hunger of wanting to know what will happen next. Karson has created incredibly good cliffhangers and it’s one of the greatest things about this trilogy.

“Love in the Ley Lines” is the perfect ending for this story. I'm not going to develop that matter, because I want you to read the book and enjoy this reading experience as I did. Just let me tell you, Millie is one of my favourite female characters of all time. She is brave, she’s strong, she's determined, and she's willing to do anything to protect her loved ones.

I liked the way some characters grew up throughout the story. I liked how Millie influenced people and certain moments of XIV century, but also how they influenced her. Cian is an interesting male character; I would love to read more about him, to be honest. But Abraham is my favourite character. His relationship with Millie is wonderful, very caring and adorable. He's totally Millie’s father. And he's funny!

Wrapping up, this third book keeps the consistency from previous books. Everything happens naturally. I didn't know how Kate Carson would make Millie goes back to the present, and it happened perfectly. I just have one negative thing to say: during the battle scene, it was a bit confusing. I don't know if it was because super sleepy and tired or not, but sometimes I didn't know how X becomes Y. But, to be honest, battles are confusing, so maybe it’s kind of a good thing, after all.

I loved it, and without a doubt I’ll keep an eye on Kate Carson’s writing!

I mostly enjoyed this book series but also felt it was a bit silly. I felt like the repeated details and opinions of lead female Milly became annoying and the lack of detail in exciting action scenes were completely lacking.

Hard to stomach

This is required reading for my tax class, and that's the only way I'd finish it. This book combines tax/IRS info with a terrible story about a tax agent. There is no depth to any of the characters. After one of his informants is killed right in front of him, the main character mostly just shrugs and moves on with his life. The plot isn't even interesting. If you want to get some of the basics about tax at the sacrifice of a plot, buy this book. I guess it IS better than a dry textbook with small type and two inches of material, but not much better.

This book is absolutely great. I love watching CSI and Criminal minds and this book is just like that. It is interesting to read such a good mystery novel for an accounting class. It takes accounting to a whole new level. I would recommend this book to everyone, even if they are not an accounting major. It is just a good book to read and I am not a reader, I hate to read.

About the Author

Jocelyn R. Neal is Associate Professor of Music and Adjunct Associate Professor of American Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is the author of The Songs of Jimmie Rodgers (2009), which won the ASCAP Deems Taylor Award. She is the past chair of the Popular Music Group within the Society for Music Theory, and is coeditor of Southern Cultures. In 2012, she was named Director of the Center for the Study of the American South.

John R. Walker is the author of thirteen textbooks and has written many magazine articles. Mr. Walker did his undergraduate studies at Millersville University and has a Master of Science degree in Industrial Education from the University of Maryland. He taught industrial arts and vocational
education for thirty-two years and was Supervisor of Industrial Education for five years. He also worked as a machinist for the U.S. Air Force and as a draftsman at the U.S. Army Aberdeen Proving Grounds. W. Richard Polanin is a professor at Illinois Central College, as well as the coordinator of
the Manufacturing Engineering Technology and Welding Technology programs. Dr. Polanin has a bachelor's and master's degree from Illinois State University and a doctorate degree from the University of Illinois. In addition to his twenty-five years of teaching, he is an active consultant in welding

In the course of the fifth century, the farms and villas of lowland Britain were replaced by a new, distinctive form of rural settlement: the settlements of the Anglo-Saxons. This volume presents the first major synthesis of the evidence - which has expanded enormously in recent years - for such settlements from across England and throughout the Anglo-Saxon period, and what it reveals about the communities who built and lived in them, and whose daily lives went almost wholly unrecorded. Helena Hamerow examines the appearance, function, and 'life-cycles' of their buildings; the relationship of Anglo-Saxon settlements to the Romano-British landscape and to later medieval villages; the role of ritual in daily life; and the relationship between farming regimes and settlement forms. A central theme throughout the book is the impact on rural producers of the rise of lordship and markets, and how this impact is reflected in the remains of their settlements. Hamerow provides an introduction to the wealth of information yielded by settlement archaeology, and to the enormous contribution that it makes to our understanding of Anglo-Saxon society.

About the Author

Helena Hamerow, Professor of Early Medieval Archaeology, Institute of Archaeology, Oxford

Following a BA in Anthropology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Helena Hamerow completed a D.Phil. at the University of Oxford in 1988. She then held the Mary Somerville Research Fellowship at Somerville College, Oxford until 1990, when she took up a Lectureship in Early Medieval Archaeology at Durham University. She returned to Oxford in 1996 where she is currently Professor or Early Medieval Archaeology and a Fellow of St Cross College. She is also a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries.
